WHERE TO FROM HERE.

Obviously this is tip of the iceberg : The focus has been solely on identification of the players. I’m using, testing, demo, combining, integrating, use casing the different players to fit them into different clients needs : And which ones are best at what. Plus understanding where the value is relative to the costs involved. And when u need to spend money versus dont. Obviously if u’d like to borrow my brain$ for such a task ping me via redbarren at gmail dot com or DM me @ twitter.com/benbarren.

I found that Radion6 missed influential networks such as Mums net and Money marketing expert, as they only monitor forums using RSS.

On a general note there is now way that software can monitor sentiment in language 100% accurately. You need a tool where the “human interface” can interpret clean and accurate data.

    Hi Ben,

Thanks for including Biz360. Clearly the market has filled up with a number of new players — it has been exciting to see it bloom after being in this space for so long! It must present a challenge for decision makers these days - particularly those new to media measurement and monitoring. The best fit for each client really depends on their specific requirements and needs - it is not one size fits all. We find they vary significantly company to company, from buyer to buyer (ie: product manager/pr/research/enterprise/global managers etc), and how new they are to all of this — and then customize accordingly between self-service and additional support.

Very true, Matt- machines aren't 100% accurate at sentiment, and neither are humans! We've done a lot of testing at Scout Labs and find that people agree on whether something is negative or positive about a brand about 85% of the time, and our algorithm is not quite that good; this is why our machine scores are changeable by humans that have unique understanding of business context. Still is works very well is most cases, and so is invaluable for big brands that can't read 100K posts a month.

yep - you need both. You need tools that let technology do its thing and people do their thing. There's a pretty lively debate about this balance and it's something we think about quite a bit at Networked Insights - you can see more from us on this topic here: http://bit.ly/gRb8T

Thanks for including MediaMiser. We're not your typical social media monitoring solution. As you briefly touched on we're a traditional media and analysis firm that's expanded into the social media space. Designed for PR professionals, we relate the social media data with traditional news coverage.

We do work exclusively in social media with some clients, but we do it a little differently than most of the others.

If you're interested in seeing any of our tools, drop me a line!

Good list of players great & small and very good visual summary. You should also check out http://www.asomo.net who fulfill the ESTABLISHED MARKET POSITION WITH HAPPY BLUE CHIP CLIENTS, MULTIPLE YEARS OF OPERATION descriptors (and more)
On a less pluggy note, check out Social Target's Guide Social Media Analysis (worldwide) and E-Consultancy's Online Reputation and Buzz Monitoring Buyer's Guide (mainly UK/Europe). Both are excellent sources of guidance and debate about this area.

    Ben,

You created a comprehensive list with some great insight for anyone interested in social media monitoring tools. If you're expanding the list, you should add Sysomos, which offers two services: Heartbeat (social media monitoring and measurement) and MAP (in-depth analytics). If you'd like a demo, let me know (mark@sysomos.com).

    Hi Ben,

Another Canadian to add to the list - dna13.

Social media monitoring is definitely one of the services we offer; with content data fed into our communications application by some of your mentioned providers - Nielsen BuzzMetrics and Moreover Technologies. From an internet and online perspective we've thus monitoring more than 114,525,371 blogs (courtesy of BuzzMetrics) - for example.

We do more than just monitoring though. For PR professionals, we give them the tool to conduct all of their media monitoring (traditional and social media), media research, press release distribution and analysis of the effectiveness of their PR campaigns and for crisis management.

Think of it as the 'all-in-one PR software' platform.

Would appreciate an inclusion if you see fit.

    Thanks,
